Best parks in Melbourne - Fitzroy Gardens

The best Garden in Melbourne has to be the Fitzroy Gardens, I know the drought and Council cut backs have over the years, lowered the appearance of this garden. A long history with features like the Conservatory, Cooks Cottage, Tudor Village, Fairies Tree etc, make this garden an important part of Melbourne. The amount of local, interstate and overseas visitors to these gardens is outstanding. Go there any day of the week to see the amount of people enjoying this garden. I see Council has been spending money on renewing infrasture but the horticultural side of the garden has declined over the years. A garden is more than new paths, rubbish bins etc. I know engineers like to build!!! What about Gardeners who like to grow??

Best parks in Melbourne - Flagstaff Gardens

OK, so it may not be the prettiest or the best-maintained park in the city, but it is just so damn handy for people working in the NW side of the city. The view over docklands @ sunset is superb (if you like commercial/industrial landscapes), the BBQ area has just been refurbished; it is a great thoroughfare if you are heading to Vic Market. Infact, collecting some produce @ said market; BBQing it in the park while the kids play on the nearby swings is just a great way to spend a few hours!

Does the banks of the Yarra count as a park opposite the Botanical gardens? Anyway is nice and green so it does in my book and I love hanging out there in spring and summer late afternoon, early evening. Very tranquil.

Not managed by City of Melbourne, but the Botanic Gardens are very special. Beautiful layout, incredible plants and trees and great views. The Domain around it (managed by the City of Melbourne) creates a lovely setting which is peaceful and green.
